30 Songs in 30 Days Challenge – Day 29 – the Welsh one

My lovely and talented friend Sarah (see day 1 for link) started this challenge.

I am going to do this the way Sarah did – a song every day and with a few lines about why I like each artist and song, and why it is significant for me. I am as much about the music as the words by the way, so I have to like both if I include a song.

Please feel free to join in this challenge with your own lists!

‘Australia’ by Manic Street Preachers

Already successful, with three albums under their belts by 1995, this Welsh band was almost ended by the disappearance of troubled lyricist Richey Edwards early that year. They decided to carry on as a trio, with bassist Nicky Wire taking over the song writing duties. In 1996 they came back with possibly their greatest album and often voted one of THE best albums of the 1990s – ‘Everything Must Go’.

‘Australia’ was one of several hit singles from the album. My first Manics gig was around this time and I have seen them several times since. They are great fun in concert and are touring again this year. They are still making great new music after over 30 years together.
