My lovely and talented friend Sarah (see day 1 for link) started this challenge.
I am going to do this the way Sarah did – a song every day and with a few lines about why I like each artist and song, and why it is significant for me. I am as much about the music as the words by the way, so I have to like both if I include a song.
Please feel free to join in this challenge with your own lists!
‘Mermaids’ by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
I only discovered Nick Cave’s work quite recently, which shocks me as I’d been aware of him since the mid 90s. His album ‘Push the Sky Away’ in 2013 is possibly my favourite and this song is one of several I could have chosen – check out ‘Higgs Boson Blues’ and ‘Jubilee Street’ too. The strings in this are especially lovely. Having a children’s choir backing a somewhat risque song is rather mischievous though..
Huge fans of Nick Cave here, Darren.

I don’t know his full repertoire. I must catch up with one day too. 🙂

This is lovely. I only really know his old stuff — a huge gap in my musical education.

Reverse of me then. I am only just discovering the old stuff. He has had a real career renaissance in recent years and is producing amazing work.

It’s looking like a shite weekend weather-wise, so I may have to fire up You Tube!
