30 Songs in 30 Days Challenge – Day 24 – the hard-to-categorise one

My lovely and talented friend Sarah (see day 1 for link) started this challenge.

I am going to do this the way Sarah did – a song every day and with a few lines about why I like each artist and song, and why it is significant for me. I am as much about the music as the words by the way, so I have to like both if I include a song.

Please feel free to join in this challenge with your own lists!

‘Down by the Water’ by P.J. Harvey

P.J. Harvey is a true artist who never fails to challenge or re-invent herself. This means that some of her work is not very accessible to many but it also means that her catalogue features at least something for everyone. This song is taken from her wonderful album ‘To Bring You My Love’ and the whole album has a very bluesy vibe which I love. Also check out ‘C’mon Billy’

  1. I’m giggling at Tracy’s comment since I was thinking how beautifully your musical tastes mesh with the Big T’s. Same age too. I’ve never been a big Polly Jean fan; something that causes T some sorrow and consternation.

    1. I actually get that you aren’t a big fan Su. The two or three albums I truly love (this on plus ‘Stories from…’ and ‘White Chalk’ are countered by a number I find unlistenable or just a bit “meh”. The much lauded ‘Let England Shake’ leaves me cold for instance.

      1. I confess I have to listened to any of her newer stuff; she fell off my radar and hasn’t really come back on. Which I guess means she fell off T’s radar. 🤨
